Resource Prospector (RP) Overview Mission: • Characterize the nature and distribution of water/volatiles in lunar polar sub-surface materials • Demonstrate ISRU processing of lunar regolith 2 kilometers 100-m radius landing ellipse Project Timeline: FY13: Pre -Phase … Lunar Outpost, a …
The direct evidence of large amounts of lunar water ice and volatiles in persistently shadowed craters by the impact experiment performed by the LCROSS spacecraft and the remote sensing of Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter instruments capped a decade-long quest from Clementine and Lunar Prospector to Chandrayaan and Moon Mineralogical Mapper. Resource Prospector was designed to prospect the lunar surface, create maps of the nature and distribution of volatiles, and then demonstrate processing while on the lunar surface. Decision calls into question the space agency’s directive to focus on the Moon. Lunar Outpost: Lunar Resource Prospecting Rover Unveiled.
The Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) is a battery-powered four-wheeled rover used on the Moon in the last three missions of the American Apollo program (15, 16, and 17) during 1971 and 1972.They are popularly known as "Moon buggies", a play on the words "dune buggy".Built by Boeing, each LRV weighs 460 pounds (210 kg) (on Earth) without payload.
However, the agency cancelled the mission in 2018 , … The Resource Prospector (RP) mission follows the path-finding approaches of the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS), which confirmed the presence of water-ice on the Moon and established a new lightweight approach to project and mission execution that was considerably cheaper and faster than traditional NASA missions. NASA has reportedly pulled the plug on Resource Prospector – its next robotic Moon mission, despite being tasked with returning humanity to our closest neighbour. Under the Resource Prospector mission, NASA would have sent a lunar rover to the polar regions of the moon to study about the water as well as other deposits on and just beneath the lunar …
The rover is designed to drill into the moon’s crust in search of water. The unexpected and unexplained move has angered lunar scientists, and confused space industry professionals about the space […] 1 of 4 Bill Bluethmann talks about the Resource Prospector at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Press Release From: Lunar Outpost Posted: Tuesday, November 13, 2018 . Resource Prospector did just that: it’d help inform companies that want to mine the Moon, and NASA planned to use a commercial lander to get the rover to the lunar surface, Metzger claims. NASA had been studying another rover mission for several years, called Resource Prospector.
