In good visibility, the launch can be seen from locations like Tampa or Miami, though neither of these cities are among the best places to watch a rocket launch in Florida. But the above are the closest public spots you can find. The NASA causeway (4 to 5 miles from landing depending on the area) is also good, if ever offered, and the best place for both launch and landing combined.
Nope - but for launches that are very late (like 2am), I can hear liftoff and the start of the launch from this far away. After that, there are areas on Route 528 where it's possible to pull over and watch the launch, and you can go to further away beaches. Most of the area around the facility is private, Cooper said — there are houses just a mile and a half (2.4 kilometers) away from the launch pad.
