Uranus has the weirdest magnetic field in our solar system, and it just got weirder. The main helicity and differential rotation are the source for the dynamo which effectively excites nonaxisymmetric modes of the mean magnetic field. When NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft arrived to study planets Uranus and Neptune in the 1980s, it found that both ice giants boasted unusual magnetic fields, offset from the axis they rotate around.
If the magnetic field were generated at it’s core, the magnetic field would be more likely to go directly through the center of … Similarities: * They’re both ice giants.
Internal Structure. Uranus and Neptune magnetic fields are tilted to large angles relative to the rotation axis 60 o on Uranus; 46 o on Neptune. Rocky cores about the size of the Earth, but about 10 times as massive. * They both have rings. Because the magnetic field line is offset, scientists believe that Neptune, like Uranus, has magnetic or electrical interactions occurring closer to the surface of the planet. A new model suggests that the edge of its magnetic field bubble could be slamming open and shut every day. e. small shepherd moons that orbit near the rings. b. a spiral density wave which confines them. However, these ideas concerning the origin of Uranus' magnetic field were called into question when it was discovered that Neptune also has a very large tilt for its magnetic axis relative to its rotation axis (46 degrees), and that its dipole is also strongly displaced from the center of the planet. The Uranus and Neptune magnetic fields discovered by Voyager 2 can be explained by a dynamo acting in a thin conductive convective shell existing at the bottom of the icy oceans of the planets. Uranus and Neptune magnetic fields are not centered on center of planet large offsets.
c. the magnetic field which holds them in place. Subsequent studies suggest a bizarre state of water with both solid and liquid properties might offer a solution to the mystery.
The magnetic fields of the Ice Giant Planets Uranus and Neptune (U/N) are unique in the solar system.
Differences: * Uranus and Neptune has a radius of 25,362 km and 24,622 km respectively. Uranus' and Neptune's magnetic fields are probably generated in their ionically conducting, fluid ‘ice’ (H 2 O, CH 4, NH 3 and H 2 S, not necessarily in the form of … Explanation of Solution The Dynamo-effect created by the magnetic field of Jovian planets is slightly different in the following ways: The way in which the dynamo-effect account for the magnetic fields of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Uranus and Neptune's weird magnetic fields are unlike Earth's, and now U.S. researchers have explained why. The narrowness of the rings of Uranus and Neptune is believed to be caused by a. gravitational interactions between ring particles. d. the smaller mass of Uranus and Neptune as compared to that of Saturn.
* They’re both very cold (below -200[math]^{\circ}[/math]C).
