A Retirement visa is a temporary entry visa. Holders or former holders of Subclass 405 (Investor Retirement) visa or a Subclass 410 (Retirement) visas now have access to permanent residency through Parent visa or a Contributory Parent visa, without the requirement to meet the balance of family test.

The British Expat Retirees in Australia group wants the government to give about 3000 people living onshore with a 410 visa a path to permanent residency. Currently, Retirement Visas (Subclass 410) are valid for four years and do not allow holders to work for more than 20 hours per week. The Pathway will provide eligible Retirement (subclass 410) and Investor Retirement (subclass 405) visa holders (Retirees) with the ability to obtain permanent residence in Australia. The Investor Retirement visa is being introduced following consultations with the State and Territory Governments. THIS VISA CLASS IS NOW CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO NEW APPLICANTS.
