NEA Scout (Near Earth Asteroid Scout) CubeSat Mission. In this study, high-fidelity trajectories for the NEA Scout mission are investigated for varying launch dates under the assumption of the failure of a critical propulsive maneuver. The NEA Scout Mission Design Team has performed a broad search of possible targets that meet a variety of requirements and in particular the targeted launch date, telecom capability, and lifetime relevant to a Class-D mission (Figure 1 and Table 3). The primary instrument payload will be a visible camera to image and collect data regarding the physical properties of a candidate NEA. NEA Scout is an interplanetary 6U CubeSat mission of NASA, a secondary payload of the Artemis-1 mission, the recently inaugural and renamed SLS (Space Launch System) EMS-1 mission to lunar space with a planned launch in 2020.

The NEA Scout team is currently evaluating a range of targets, and is continually updating the candidate pool based on new discoveries and expected performance.

The NEA Scout will be one of 13 CubeSats to be carried with the Artemis 1 mission into a heliocentric orbit in cis-lunar space on the maiden flight of the Space Launch System (SLS) planned to launch in 2021. The Near-Earth Asteroid Scout (NEA Scout) is a planned mission by NASA to develop a controllable low-cost CubeSat solar sail spacecraft capable of encountering near-Earth asteroids (NEA). Several additional candidate as-teroids, that are of significant interest to the scientific community are also investigated as potential alternate targets. In the current investigation, contingency scenarios for NEA Scout mission are explored.

NEA-Scout is one of 13 cubesats planned to be carried with the Orion Artemis-1 mission into a heliocentric orbit in cis-lunar space on the maiden flight of the SLS (Block 1) iCPS launch vehicle in 2019. While the target can change based on launch date, the current planned target is[HTML_REMOVED]1991VG. Spacecraft Launch NEA Scout Camera References. Table 3. the launch date no earlier than December 2019, alter-nate targets have also been considered.

List of Potential Targets Identified for NEA Scout. NEA-Scout is to perform at least one close, slow flyby (<10 m/s).

Because asteroids that can be reached change with launch dates, the NEA Scout team maintains a list of suitable targets over a range of launch dates, with the current planned target being 2013 WA44.

The current baseline target is 1991 VG. Most people would agree that knowing the history, principles, and foundations of American democracy, and the ability to participate in civic and democratic processes, are vital to our citizenry.
