That being said, one of Netflix's most recent releases in Mute is an example of a film with a great setting, great premise, and great characters, that still manages to fall flat on its face. Film Review: ‘Mute’ Reviewed at Netflix screening room, Los Angeles, Feb. 22, 2018. Our Mute review looks at Duncan Jones' long-awaited Netflix sci-fi film starring Alexander Skarsgard, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux. Reviews Netflix’s Mute misses the mark by a mile. Read Matt Goldberg's Mute review; Duncan Jones new Netflix movie stars Alexander Skarsgard, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux, Seyneb Saleh, and Robert Sheehan. Mute is a slog, and a depressing one; as Netflix sci-fi goes, it’s not as abjectly inept as The Cloverfield Paradox, but it’s perhaps even more disappointing given the talented filmmaker involved. I have to agree, Rudd actually makes for a compelling villain and this is a big departure from Ant-Man. When playing in such a specific genre like neo-noir, you either have to be stand-out brilliant or do something subversive. MUTE is a new sci-fi movie on Netflix. Alexander Skarsgård is fine as Leo, he's just not given a lot to work with. “Mute” opens with a badly injured boy floating in a lake, bleeding from half a dozen deep gashes to his neck — the result of a gruesome run-in with a motorboat propeller. The Netflix original film is aptly named, because it has no voice.

It’s fair to say Duncan Jones’ Mute arrives on Netflix burdened by a considerable weight of expectation. “Mute” premieres on Netflix today and it’s an interesting chapter in the company’s onslaught of sci-fi entertainment in recent months, including “Bright,” “The Cloverfield Paradox,” and “Altered Carbon.” Sadly, Jones’ passion has not made it to the screen in a way that’s likely to make viewers feel the same excitement he had about the project so many years ago. By David Strausser Mar—28—2018 12:00AM EDT. Director Duncan Jones brings his very personal sci-fi noir to Netflix. His performance is noteworthy, and it was a good reminder what he's capable of. Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux, the dystopian flick is directed by iconic filmmaker Duncan Jones. Review: Flashes of cyberpunk imagination and Paul Rudd's M*A*S*H-tache aren't enough to give the film a voice. Mute/Netflix. Despite the negative reviews, the one positive things I heard before turning Mute on was Paul Rudd's performance as Cactus Bill. It’s a film he’s been nurturing for over a decade-and-a-half. C'est d'autant plus dommage que le film dispose d'un casting détonnant. Running time: 126 MIN. Et lorsqu'il essaye de raconter une histoire, il ne le fait pas d'une manière suffisamment pertinente pour soulever un certain intérêt chez son téléspectateur. Sadly, no.
