Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has been orbiting the Moon in a polar orbit since 2009, and has been performing detailed mapping of the lunar surface as well as conduct-ing other measurements. The spacecraft was launched on June 18, 2009, and entered lunar orbit on June 23, 2009. LRO is scheduled to launch 24th April, 2009, with the objectives to finding safe landing sites, locate potential resources, characterize the radiation environment and test new technology. It was also equipped to collect selenodetic, radiation intensity, and micrometeoroid impact data.
