We have converted some of our models to .stl format for 3D printing and we are working on more. When the space shuttle is to rendezvous with the International Space Station, engineers calculate when the orbital path of the ISS passes directly over or near the latitude and longitude coordinates of Kennedy Space Center in Florida—that’s the plane window (the orbit is the edge of a circular plane that passes through the center of Earth).
The orbiter can be oriented so that the cargo bay doors face toward the Earth or away from the Earth depending upon the mission objectives; in fact, the orientation can be changed throughout the mission.
Once in space, the shuttle orbiter is your home for seven to 14 days. But after just one flight, it was mothballed.
