Individual asteroids are found throughout our solar system. Most asteroids orbit between Mars and Jupiter in the Main Asteriod Belt. They are distinguished by a very low albedo because their composition includes a large amount of carbon, in addition to rocks and minerals. But, the majority of the asteroids are found in the asteroid belt. But some space rocks stray out of the main belt and threaten Earth. The typical composition of an asteroid depends on its distance from the Sun. The C stands for carbon and the surfaces of these asteroids are almost coal-black. C-type (carbonaceous) asteroids are the most common variety, forming around 75% of known asteroids. The asteroid belt is an orbit around the Sun that is located after the Mars and before the Jupiter.It is estimated that the asteroid belt contains around 2 million asteroids that are larger than 1 km in size. At the outer edges of the asteroid belt, that is between three and three and a half times further from the Sun than the Earth, over eighty percent of the asteroids are known as C-type.
